2007 Syrah Geek Notes

Vintage:

The 2007 vintage started out cool but moderate summer temperatures kept the vintage on track. A warm September gracefully finished maturing the fruit, creating a classic Washington vintage. The resulting wine’s bold flavors are tempered by the supple tannins smoothed out over 18 months of aging in small French and American barrels.

Vineyard:

This Syrah is blended from vineyards throughout the Columbia Valley: Coyote Canyon, Willow Crest, Lawrence Vineyard and Sagemoor. These various lots combine to create one of the most complex Syrahs released to date.

Winemaking:

·  Crushed and then put into fermentation tanks to cold soak for 2 days to allow color and flavor extraction.

· Fermented 10-14 days in stainless steel tanks, hand punched 3 times a day, temperatures not exceed 85 degrees fahrenheit.

· Aged 20 months in small oak barrels. None new to preserve the fruit integrity of the varietal.

· Racked 4 times and coarse filtered
