2009 Malbec Geek Notes

Vintage:

A rainy, cool May and June started delayed fruit set. The result was smaller berries that impart concentrated flavors thanks to the warmer temperatures during summer and late September. A challenging vintage, but with great results.

Vineyard:

Mike Freepons’ vineyard is located at the top of the Rosa district in Yakima Valley. This hillside vineyard enjoys long sun exposure resulting in delicious fruit flavors with beautiful balance.

Winemaking:

· Crushed and hand punched in small fermenters

· Pressed out after 14 days on the skins

· Barrel aged for 18 months in neutral oak barrels to preserve the natural fruit flavors of the malbec grape.
